How to qualify for Disablement Pension

TIME REQUIREMENT

• Have suffered an employment injury/work-related prescribed disease, which results in permanent disability

• Assessment by Medical Board set up by Social Security

• Submit claim on prescribed form (IB17)
Submit claim within 13 weeks from the date that you become entitled to claim Disablement Benefit

• No sum shall be paid for any period more than 26 weeks before the date that the claim is made

How much and for how long is Disablement Pension?

Period of Benefit Payment

• For Disability of 25% or more, a Pension is paid

• 60% of average insurable earnings in 4 weeks before injury x % of disability = weekly rate

* Minimum Pension is $47 per week

• As of end of injury benefit period

• For as long as disability continues

(B) DISABLEMENT GRANT (One Lump Sum)

• For disability under 25%, a Grant is paid

• Formula: 260 x Average Insurable Earnings in 4 weeks before injury x % of disability = grant

• One time payment for the injury
